Expert Answers about RV Transfer Switch

  • Does Go Power Solar Elite Charging System Require Additional Transfer Switch
  • Depends on what your setup will look like whether or not you'd only need the transfer switch that comes with the Go Power Solar kit part # 34282184. If you only will have the solar panel kit and AC outlet power from a campsite as power sources you'd bypass you current transfer switch, but if you will also have option of powering the setup from a generator you'll need to retain the switch you have now as well.

  • Can Furrion Transfer Switch be Used for a Single Circuit Like Furnace
  • Yes, you can use a single circuit with a transfer switch like the Furrion part # F50ATS. You'd run your generator and your RV power supply to the transfer switch and then the output to the furnace and it could be then powered by either power source.

  • Recommended Made in USA 50 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch for RV
  • Yes, the Progressive Dynamics Transfer Switch part # PD52 has an automatic design with 50 amp rating and it's made right here in the USA. We also offer the Go Power Automatic Transfer Switch part # 34270278 which is an automatic switch with 50 amp rating made here in the USA. They are both great options, the Go Power is slightly smaller but I would go with whichever is more cost effective at the time.

  • Why is Transfer Switch Needed with RV that Uses Shore Power and Generator
  • The transfer switch is needed if you plan to use more than one AC power source for your camper. So if you use shore power from a camp site and also want to be able to use a generator you need the transfer switch like the part # 34270278. With DC power you can run more than one power source to a circuit and there's no issue but with AC power you can't run two power sources to same circuit at same time which is why the transfer switch is needed.

  • Recommended Power Inverter, 50 Amp Transfer Switch and Charger For Solar Upgrade On RV Camper
  • I recommend using the Go Power Industrial Pure Sine Wave Inverter Charger # 34275013. This will reduce all the components into one system by combining your transfer switch inverter and converter/charger into one unit. You will be able to wire in your 50 amp circuit with this unit. This will mean less wiring and space required for your setup and only one panel to monitor everything in your system. On a 50 amp RV circuit you have 2 separate 120 volt holt circuits that feed into the RV....

  • Protecting RV Electronics With The Go Power Transfer Switch
  • I can see why you would want to install the Go Power Automatic Transfer Switch # 34264403 as it would protect your system from power back feed, but the Progressive Dynamics RV Power Control Center # PD4135K does come with some safety features to protect itself in some cases. For instance, If a battery is accidentally hooked up backwards, the converter will be protected. An easily accessible ATC type fuse will blow when a battery is connected in reverse. Replace with same type and rating....

  • Can 50 Amp Transfer Switch for RV be Wired for 30 Amps
  • There isn't a way to wire our 50 amp transfer switches to work with 30 amp so your best solution would be a 30 amp switch like the Furrion part # F30ATS.

  • Transfer Switch for Use in RV that Has Progressive Dynamics 45 Amp Power Center
  • Any time you have more than one AC power source you need to use a transfer switch like the # 34264403. This kit will automatically switch from the inverter power to shore power when available. But since you have a 45 amp power center and the transfer switch you referenced is only designed for 30 amps you'd want the 50 amp Furrion Transfer Switch part # F50ATS. I attached a picture that shows the connectors that this uses. You'd want to run 6 gauge wire stripped back into the pins and...

  • Recommended Charge Converter and Transfer Switch for Solar Panels and Shore Power
  • The Go Power Industrial Pure Sine Wave Inverter Charger part # 34280055 is my recommendation for an all-in-one unit that can take input from AC and convert this to DC for charging batteries as well as switching from solar to shore power when needed. The transfer switch is automatic as well so there will be no need to manually flip switches. It can also be used as an inverter for powering AC accessories with DC batteries.

  • Does Progressive Dynamics Control Center Convert to DC Power for Charging Battery
  • The Progressive Dynamics RV Power Control Center with AC/DC Panel and Converter/Smart Charger # PD4575K18LS8 does have a converter to go from AC power input to DC power to charge the batteries of your RV. This does not come with a transfer switch so if you were planning on powering the panel from two AC power sources like a generator and a campsite power plug you'd need a transfer switch like part # PD5110010Q if you have 30 amp service or part # PD52 if you have 50 amp service.

  • Pure Sine Wave Inverter w/ Transfer Switch for RV Refrigerator
  • If you are simply wanting to operate the refrigerator I suggest you consider using the Progressive Dynamics Pure Sine Wave Inverter w/ Transfer Switch - Remote - 1,000 Watts - 12V, # PD1210NR. With this you can create a circuit that our residential refrigerator will operate on when not connected to shore power, it will draw from your onboard battery bank. However, because of the automatic transfer switch it will pull from shore power when available. This will not attempt to put charge...

  • Can a Horse Trailer Wired for 110AC Power Also be Wired to Run Off of 12 Volt DC Power
  • Since you want the powered accessories on the trailer to run off of both 110 AC power and 12 volt DC power you will need what is called a transfer switch and probably some additional wiring including the batteries. A transfer switch will automatically switch to running off AC power when the trailer is plugged in and then revert back to DC power. The trouble is that the accessories using the power have to be rated for AC and DC power. This is actually a fairly major operation. We do...

  • What is the Electrical Power Requirement for the 14 Cu Ft Furrion RV Refrigerator
  • The Furrion RV Refrigerator # FCR14ACBQABL is rated for 1.268 kWh/24h which is the equivalent of 1,268 Watts so I recommend going with at least the Progressive Dynamics Pure Sine Wave Inverter w/ Transfer Switch # PD64FR which is rated for 2,000 Watts. The beauty of this inverter is that is has a built-in transfer switch so you'll actually be connecting both your battery bank and your shore power wiring to this unit and it will automatically pull power from shore power when you're connected...

  • Recommended Power Transfer for Generator Connection on 5th Wheel Trailer
  • The Furrion Transfer Switch - 50 Amp # F50ATS can be added to your 5th wheel trailer along with the 50 amp power inlet like # A10-50INVP or # A10-50INBKVP. Most generator inverters will use a 30 amp generator cord, so you will use the Mighty Cord Generator Adapter for RV Power Cord - 50 Amp Female to 30 Amp Twist Lock Male # A10-G30450VP and then power cord # A10-5025ED. This cord is the shortest we carry at 25 feet long. This combination will allow you to power your refrigerator from...

  • How to Wire Three Power Sources to Two Transfer Switches
  • I do have an option for you but none of our power transfer switches will allow you to switch between three AC power sources. However, I do have a way for you to do this but you will need to install two power transfer switches like the Go Power Automatic Transfer Switch part # 34264403 for example. A transfer switch will have a single dominate side. So how the input is wired into the switch will affect how it passes power through, so two switches could be wired using the attached photo

  • Does Go Power Solar Extreme Charging System Use Inverter and Converter When Attached to Shore Power
  • I spoke with Go Power about your question and this is what they sent me in response: "They are correct in the weekender the converter is wired into the transfer switch so it only comes on when shore power is applied. In the larger kits the converter is disabled because the inverter also contains a converter. You don’t want the inverter powering a converter which is trying to charge the batteries. Big current draw loop." They also sent me a picture that I attached to this page that...
